Episode: Connections: Dylan's Cutting Edge 1965-1966 and more

Nov 6, 2015 episode of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks. Includes a deep exploration of Bob Dylan's new release: The Cutting Edge 1965-1966, The Bootleg Series Volume 12. The first hour and a half of the show covers Dylan reinventing himself and the music during the time of Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde, as songs take shape, change and then change again. Alternate versions and early takes  show his willingness to change lyrics, tempo and anything else until he gets the sound and feel that he wants, even if he's not sure what he's aiming for at the time.

There are songs and fragments of songs that were previously unreleased, along with outstandingly different versions of songs that we've all heard before. Also great humor while the tape's rolling. The songs are a great testament to what can be done with persistence and vision with a creative and sympathetic, very talented live band in a recording studio, under the direction of a phenomenally talented songwriter and performing artist. I'm glad Bob had that vision, and that we're now able to hear how it developed in the studio.

From there, the show goes on to new music from Peter Case, Squeeze, The Zombies, Hillary Bratton, Ducktails, St Germain, Christine and the Queens, The Chapin Sisters covering The Everly Brothers, Eric Eden, Editors and The Dead Weather.

Also The Fugs, Brion Gysin, Jack Nitzsche, The Kinks, George Harrison, Warren Zanes (who is about to release his new biography of Tom Petty), The Hollies and whatever happened in the moment.
