Episode: Connections: Dylan Bootleg Series 15 plus new and vintage music

Nov 1, 2019 episode of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks. Exploring the new Bob Dylan release plus new and vintage music.

Dylan’s Bootleg Series Vol 15 "Traveling Thru" covers an extraordinary period of recordings from roughly 1967-1969, including outtakes, alternate versions and unreleased recordings from John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline, informal sessions with Johnny Cash and Earl Scruggs, along with incredibly talented musicians, totally in tune with Bob. Throughout these recordings, it’s apparent that everybody was having great fun, while Bob found a new way to make music that influenced countless others, yet again.

There are several sections of the show focused on these tracks, well mixed by my friend Steve Addabbo, a wonderfully talented producer, engineer, musician, vocalist and songwriter, who has mixed many of the recent Bootleg Series releases, including The Cutting Edge, More Blood On The Tracks, Another Self Portrait and others. It’s a real treat to hear alternate versions and works in progress in terrific sound, bringing new insight to the songs and the artist.

We’re lucky to live in a time where so much of Dylan’s work, even the outtakes, is quickly accessible in high quality sound.

The show also includes new releases from Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Rickie Lee Jones, Julia Haltigan, Matt Berninger with Phoebe Bridgers, The Muffs, J S Osandra, General Elektriks, Men I Trust and more.

Also rare Beatles, Pete Townshend, Sam Phillips, Amy Rigby (who has a new book), a Pete Ham demo of a Badfinger hit, Todd Rundgren, Paul Revere and The Raiders, Nick Lowe, The Byrds, Galen Ayers, comedy from Steven Wright, The Squeaky Chairs, The Final Straws and whatever happened in the moment.

Thanks for tuning in!
