Episode: Connections: Beatles Let It Be new box set plus new and vintage music

October 15, 2021 episode of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks. It’s spontaneous! It’s non linear!! Featuring a deep exploration of The Beatles new Let It Be 5 cd box set plus new and vintage music.

The box set covers the entire period in January 1969 when The Beatles gathered to rehearse and record new songs that they’d be able to play live for a loosely envisioned tv special that might take place on an ocean liner or an ancient amphitheater in some far off place with specially invited guests, but ended up on the Apple rooftop.

The box set covers early rehearsals of new songs, jam sessions, studio chatter, unreleased cover songs, alternate takes, the original Get Back mix by Glyn Johns, a new mix by Giles Martin, fragments of new songs by John, Paul and George that were considered for the Get Back sessions but ended up on their solo albums, thoughts about the whole idea of performing live, spontaneous humor and much more… all in great sound quality.

The Beatles music is covered in several parts of the show, interspersed with a John Lennon rarity, The Kinks, Bobby Fuller, a rare Sam Phillips cover and recently released performances by Alex Chilton and The Hi Rhythm Section.

Also new releases by Aimee Mann, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Allison Krauss, Maria Taylor, Wet Leg, Tori Amos, Bedouine, Hurray for The Riff Raff & Waxahatchee, Collette, The Squeaky Chairs, The Hanging Curveballs and whatever happened in the moment.

Sometimes the connections only become apparent later… even to me!

Thanks for tuning in!!

It’s more fun than the news!
