Episode: Connections: Dylan's Cutting Edge Part 2, New Music and Tony Visconti Interview

Dec 18, 2015 episode of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks. Features rare Dylan, new music and an interview with Tony Visconti.

The first 45 minutes of the show goes deeply into newly released outtakes, alternate versions, studio rehearsals and previously unreleased live hotel recordings, such as Positively Van Gogh and Don't Tell Him, Tell Me. Also an exploration of being in the studio while Bob works on I'll Keep I With Mine, Absolutely Sweet Marie, Visions Of Johanna, Desolation Row, Rainy Day Women, Obviously Five Believers and more.

There's also new music and some radio premieres from Roxanne Fontana, Anna Rose, David Bowie's new single Lazarus, Et Tu Brucé and M.Ward, along with music from Sam Phillips, T-Rex, Kristeen Young, Warren Zanes, The Section Quartet, The Beach Boys and whatever happened in the moment.

About an hour and a half in, I'm joined by the brilliant and legendary producer, arranger, engineer, musician and vocalist Tony Visconti… well known for producing David Bowie, T-Rex, Iggy Pop, The Moody Blues, Kristeen Young, Thin Lizzy, Alejandro Escovedo, Richard Barone, Esperanzo Spalding and many more.

In a very informal interview/conversation, we talk about his upcoming tour with Holy Holy (featuring drummer Woody Woodmansey). They'll be performing the entire David Bowie album, The Man Who Sold The World (which Tony produced and played bass on with Woody on drums), along with Bowie classics in the second half.

We also talk about his deep friendship with David Bowie and Marc Bolan of T-Rex, the importance of a producer in recording music and how that applies to Tony's viewpoint in a time of modern technology, and much more. Plenty of good laughs, great stories, insights and observations along the way.

The interview is followed by Bowie's Black Country Rock (with his great impersonation of his friend Marc Bolan) and a Kristeen Young duet with David Bowie. David's new song Lazerus is a bit later, after Warren Zanes and Sam Phillips.
