Episode: Live Culture with Martha Willette Lewis

 Episode 16: Sweet Sixteen
Summer reading means fresh voices and vacation escapes into the worlds on the pages. This month features a conversation with Author Paula Whyman, recorded in early June at Bryant Park in NYC. Come join us In a leafy urban park setting for a glimpse into the process of writing, of publishing and of getting one's debut work out in the world....

Whyman’s first book You May See a Stranger, published by TriQuarterly Books, is fresh off the presses, and features connected stories throughout the life of one Miranda Webber, a reckless and erratic central character. The stories take place in Washington, D.C. throughout the 1980s, blending issues of sex, intimacy, racial tension, family dramas and world events into a dizzying array of scenarios, many of which have an eclectic soundtrack running through them. In the back of Whyman’s book are lyric credits; throughout the show we will sample songs from her soundtrack, as well as hearing more about her process and how this extraordinary book and it's characters, came into being.

Paula Whyman has published stories in Ploughshares, McSweeney’s Quarterly, Virginia Quarterly Review, and other literary journals. She has received fellowships from theMacDowell Colony and Yaddo.
