Episode: 07.17,23: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Ohio GOP Referendum Undermines Democracy; Teamsters Prepare for Historic Strike at UPS; Police Repression of Climate Activists on the Rise; Campaign Working to Keep Trump off of 2024 Ballot

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 – 9:30 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) David Pepper, former chair of the Ohio Democratic Party and author of the new book, "Saving Democracy: A User's Manual for Every American," discusses Ohio Republican’s "Issue #1" referendum on August 8th, that if passed will increase the threshold needed to amend the Ohio Constitution from 50% +1 to 60%, that many believe is motivated by the GOP goal of defeating a November ballot measure on abortion access -- as well as blocking future voter initiatives to increase the minimum wage and implement redistricting reform to prevent gerrymandering.

2) Alex Press, a staff writer with Jacobin magazine who covers labor organizing, talks about her recent article, "Teamsters Are Close to the Largest Strike in Decades," and how the possible strike at UPS fits into what's happening across the country inside the reinvigorated U.S. labor movement.

3) Darsen Hover, a freelance writer and graduate student in journalism and international affairs at NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, discusses her recent article, "The War on Climate Activism Is Reaching Dangerous New Heights."

4) Irving Zavaleta, National Programs Manager with Mi Familia Vota, discusses his group's efforts to keep Donald Trump, and other Republican politicians who were involved in the January 6th Capitol insurrection, off of election ballots in key states.
