1) Phyllis Bennis, director of the New Internationalism project at the Institute for Policy Studies and author of the new book, “Understanding ISIS and the New Global War on Terror, A Primer.” She assesses the recent Congressional vote that avoided formal rejection of the Iran nuclear deal and the potential ripple effects in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and Lebanon -- as well as the flood of war refugees fleeing to Europe.
2) Russell Mokhiber, editor of Corporate Crime Reporter, discusses his views on reported changes at the U.S. Dept. of Justice, where going forward there will be more focus on holding individual corporate employees accountable for corrupt behavior, rather than the corporation as a whole. He'll address the contributing factors that have led to America's corrupt corporate culture where many powerful executives believe they operate above the law.
3) Allan Nairn, an award-winning U.S. investigative journalist is well-known for his coverage of the East Timor struggle for independence, having been beaten and imprisoned by the Indonesian military along with Democracy Now host Amy Goodman when they witnessed a massacre of East Timorese civilians in 1991. Over the years Allan has reported on U.S. foreign policy in Guatemala, El Salvador and Haiti, where Washington has supported dictators, death squads and torture. Reporting from Guatemala, Allan discusses the recent resignation and jailing of President Otto Pérez Molina on corruption charges, his connection as a General in the Guatemalan military to mass murder committed during the nation's civil war - and profiles frontrunner presidential candidate and comedian Jimmy Morales.
4) John Humphries, an organizer with the Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs and a member of the CT Governor's Council on Climate Change talks about the mission and progress of the CT Governors Council, as well as CT's climate protection strategy, resisting new natural gas infrastructure, moving toward renewable energy sources and the Global Warming Solutions Act.
