Episode: 09.12.16: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses democracy reform in the presidential debates; the ongoing campaign to defeat the TPP trade bill; the growth of renewable energy sources & a landmark case on CT's unequal education system

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Rahna Epting, Chief of Staff with the group Every Voice, summarizes the demand by 30 democracy reform groups, that election debate moderators should ask the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates to talk about their views on the widely held perception that the structure and mechanics of U.S. democracy are broken, and in urgent need of repair.

2) Public Citizen's International Campaigns Director, Melinda St. Louis discusses the campaign being waged now to stop a lame duck session vote on the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade deal, with a focus on opposition to the TPP's Investor-state dispute settlement provision (ISDS.)

3) Ken Bossong, executive director Sun Day Campaign talks about his group's recent research report summarizing the growth of renewable energy sources, i.e. wind and solar, generating electricity across the U.S. in the first six months of 2016.

4) Wendy Lecker, a senior attorney at the Education Law Center and a columnist with the Hearst Connecticut Media Group, discusses the recent decision by Connecticut Superior Court Judge Thomas Moukawsher, who ruled that the state's education funding system is irrational and unconstitutional -- and must overhaul its education system and come up with a new funding formula within 180 days to ensure the state's poorest school districts have resources to provide an adequate education.
