Episode: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Arizona Court Activates 1864 Draconian Abortion Ban; Israel Iran Attack Counterattack Could Trigger Regional War; EPA has New Standards for PFAS chemicals in drinking water; Radical Connecticut People's History

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 – 9:30 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Katie Herchenroeder, a fellow at Mother Jones magazine who covers issues of gender inequity and violence against women. She'll discuss her recent article, "The Arizona Supreme Court Just Allowed a Near-Total Abortion Ban From 1864 to Go Into Effect," as well as the court decision's impact on the lives of people in the state, GOP politician's response, the national political impact, and the work being done to urge Arizona voters to approve a constitutional amendment ballot question in November to establish a “fundamental right” to abortion.

2) Assaf Kfoury, Professor of Computer Science at Boston University discusses the danger of Israel's April 1st airstrike on Iran's Syrian embassy that provoked Iran's drone and missile counterattack on Israel. He'll also talk about the catastrophic war in Gaza and his recent article, "Hamas: From Candidate Enforcer to Implacable Foe," tracing the history of Hamas -- and Israel's "divide and rule" strategy with regard to their elevation ofHamas in order to marginalize the PLO and prevent the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state.

3) Mary Grant: Public Water for All Campaign Director at Food & Water Watch, discusses the EPA's new drinking water standard for PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” and her group's earlier report, "PFAS Industry Spent More Than $110 Million on Lobbying Since 2019." which investigated the industry's efforts to derail action by Congress to hold corporations producing PFAS accountable for cleanup and mitigation efforts.

4) Andy Piascik and Steve Thornton, authors of the new book, "Radical Connecticut: People's History in the Constitution State," which tells the stories of everyday people and well-known figures whose work has often been obscured, denigrated or dismissed. The book provides fascinating narratives of Connecticut social movements and popular organizations that have changed the state and the country for the better.
