Episode: 09.07.20: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses the plight of low wage restaurant workers in the pandemic; Concern re: Trump rushing vaccine before the election; Militias & vigilante violence at BLM protests & Police abuse CT Senate Majority Leader

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Nikki Cole, national policy director with the group One Fair Wage discusses her work advocating for a living wage for all, tipped and subminimum wage workers nationally, and the campaign to require all employers pay the full minimum wage with fair, non-discriminatory tips on top. She'll also talk about how the coronavirus pandemic has created extreme hardship for millions of workers who have been laid off, or have had their hours dramatically cut.

2) National Nurses United Union President Jean Ross, RN, talks about growing concern re: the Trump administration’s rush to distribute a new COVID-19 vaccine before the November election, in what many public health officials believe is a scheme to cut corners in clinical trials in order to gain partisan political advantage - risking health and safety.

3) Christopher Vials, associate professor and director of American studies at the University of Connecticut at Storrs, is author of "Haunted by Hitler: Liberals, the Left and the Fight against Fascism in the U.S.", and co-editor of "The US Antifascism Reader." He examines recent violent clashes between anti-racism protesters and armed right-wing vigilante and militia groups across the U.S. He'll also discuss the Trump regime's current bellicose law and order campaign, along with statements from Attorney General William Barr that the Justice Department is investigating the activities of anarchists and antifa, that he blames for violence and property destruction in several U.S. cities.

4) Bob Duff, state Senate majority leader representing Connecticut's 25th Senate District of Norwalk and Darien, talks about Connecticut's recently passed police accountability legislation, his open letter to the Norwalk Police union re: officer's abusive behavior towards the Senator and his testimony before a PURA hearing to investigate Eversource’s response to recent storm damage.
