Episode: 02.24.20: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Medicare For All and labor unions; Trump Afghan War peace talks with the Taliban; The crisis in U.S. journalism & The push for Community Choice Aggregation in CT

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Mark Dudzic, National Coordinator of the Labor Campaign for Single Payer will talk about his group's work this election year, his recent article published in Labor Notes, "Employment-Based Health Care is an Anchor Around the Neck of the U.S. Working Class," and media coverage of the proposed Medicare For All in the current Democratic presidential primary campaign.

2) Melvin Goodman, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, and an adjunct professor of international relations at Johns Hopkins University, worked for 42-years in government service with tours at the CIA, the State Dept., and the Dept. of Defense’s National War College. Mel, author of five books, his latest titled, “American Carnage: The Wars of Donald Trump," will discuss negotiations now underway between the Trump administration and Taliban to reach a peace agreement that would lay the groundwork for the eventual withdrawal of U.S. troops. He'll assess the cost of this decades-long war on the Afghan people, and what the future may hold for the war-torn nation.

3) Victor Pickard, Associate Professor at the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania, co-directs the Media, Inequality & Change Center. The author of, "America's Battle for Media Democracy and co-author of "After Net Neutrality: A New Deal for the Digital Age," Pickard will talk about his new book, "Demcoracy Without Journalism? Confronting the Misinformation Society."

4) Dan Knudsen and Michael Uhl, members of Peoples Action for Clean Energy, talk about Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), a tool cities and towns can use to direct their energy purchases toward renewable sources — while saving money at the same time. Other states such as Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New York, California and four others have implemented CCA, and there's a push to have Connecticut adopt it as well.
