Episode: 10.29.18: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses the rise of hate crimes in the age of Trump; Trump plan to pull out of the INF nuclear weapons treaty with Russia; Brazil's new extreme right president & Working Families Party midterm election GOTV

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Chip Berlet, an investigative journalist, research analyst, scholar and activist who has written about racism and intolerance for over four decades, discusses the rise in hate crimes, the increasing number of violent right wing groups -- and effective ways to counter this trend -- assessed in the context of President Trump's toxic rhetoric and the recent spate of pipe bombs sent to Democratic Party politicians and former government officials and the massacre at a Pittsburgh synagogue, one of the worst attacks against the Jewish community in the United States in decades.

2) Kevin Martin, President of Peace Action examines the Trump administration's announcement that it intends to withdraw from the U.S - Russia Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, and concern about the revival of a new cold war arms race with both Russia and China.

3) Alexander Main, Director of International Policy at the Center for Economic and Policy Research discusses grave concern over the fate of Brazil, now that the country has elected extremist right wing candidate Jair Bolsonaro president, who has pledged to open up the Amazon rainforest to unchecked development and regularly made misogynistic, racist and homophobic remarks.

4) Working Families Party of Connecticut Executive Director Lindsay Farrell talks about the party's Get Out The Vote operation in CT and nationally in advance of the Nov. 6th midterm election, providing information on how our listeners can participate -- and the WFP's legislative agenda in the year ahead.
