Episode: 10.08.18: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses the defeat of groups opposed to Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination; Assessing Trump's renegotiated NAFTA treaty; Fight For 15 stages strikes, protests in 7 states; UCONN's Alternative Press Collection

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Toni Van Pelt, President of NOW, the National Organization for Women, talks about NOW's active opposition to the confirmation of President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, the multiple charges of sexual assault against him, the credibility of the supplemental FBI investigation and the Republican controlled Senate's handling of the overall confirmation process. She'll also address concerns about the conservative majority now on the Supreme Court and the possible overturning of the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion nationwide.

2) Arthur Stamoulis Executive Director with the Citizens Trade Campaign assesses the revised NAFTA agreement the Trump administration negotiated with Canada - and the pros/cons for workers, consumers and the environment. He'll also discuss the ratification process going forward -- and opportunities to improve or oppose various elements of the deal.

3) Laura Huizar, Staff Attorney with the National Employment Law Project discusses the strikes called this week in seven states across the U.S., the demand for union representation and a living wage -- as the U.S. experiences record income inequality.

4) Graham Stinnett, Archivist of the Human Rights & Alternative Press Collections at the University of Connecticut library, discusses the Alternative Press Collection at the Dodd Research Center, one of the oldest and largest collections of alternative press materials in the United States.
