Episode: 04.23.18: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Trump deregulation of U.S. arms sales; Rise of hate crimes in US target South Asians, Muslims & Arabs; Oligarchs call the shots in US politics; Cryptocurrency, Blockchain deciphered

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Kevin Martin, President of Peace Action and the Peace Action Education Fund, shares his views on the Trump administration's decision to lift existing restrictions on U.S. arms sales abroad, the repercussions for human rights around the world, and comments on the complex web of issues that will be part of the planned summit meeting between Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

2) Suman Raghunathan, executive director of South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT,) examines the rise in hate crimes targeting South Asian, Muslim and other minority communities across the U.S., after the election of Donald Trump in the 2016 election. She'll also review the recent conviction of three men for plotting to bomb an apartment complex in Garden City, Kansas where many Somali refugees live.

3) Paul Street, an independent radical-democratic policy researcher, journalist, historian and author discusses his recent article, "Who Will Protect Elections From U.S. Oligarchs?" which sounds the alarm about the often unknown, unaccountable, billionaire funders of extremist right wing Republican candidates running for local, state and federal office.

4) Martin Weiss, founder of Weiss Cryptocurrency Ratings company, talks about the concept of cryptocurrency, blockchain -- and the important related issues the average person, and investors should know about before getting involved. He'll also explain unique applications where crypto currency is now being employed, such as in Venezuela with their new "El Petro" cryptocurrency.
