Episode 11: Behind the Facade
This episode Martha is in discussion with Cyra Levenson, Curator of Education and Academic Outreach, at the Yale Center for British Art, New Haven. The BAC is currently slated to reopen this spring 2016. While the institution lies fallow, those working inside have not been idle. We take a look at what she has been up to and what is in store for us at the museum upon it's grand reopening.
This includes collaborations with The Yale School of Medicine, The American Studies Department at Yale, The Peabody Museum and The Smithsonian Institution, as well as scholars artists and thinkers from around the region. Drawing is central to her research, which has manifested itself in many forms, including a documentary film.
Live Culture catches up with her to discuss what she has been up to since curating the ground-breaking exhibit Figures of Empire: Slavery and Portraiture in Eighteenth Century Atlantic Britain, which ended just as the museum closed its doors for renovation in early 2015.
